1) Poonch has a hoary history of resistance to the Islamists. During the last days of Shahabuddin/early days of Qutbuddin of Kashmir (~1370), an expedition was sent under a Damara named Laula/Laulaka to Poonch to subdue its rebellious lord.

2) Caught in a tight spot, the Lord of Lohara [old name of Poonch] tried to negotiate with the enemy. However, Laulaka simply seized & imprisoned the envoys sent by the Lord of Poonch. With negotiations broken down, only the choices of fight or flight were left to Poonch lord.

Attacking with a shower of arrows & stones, in that misfortune [which Lord of Lohara was facing], Poonch troops descended the hills [attacking the enemy], while they rose in fame.— Shanmukh ಷಣ್ಮುಖ ষণ্মুখ షణ్ముఖ ഷണ്മുഖ 𑆰𑆟𑇀𑆩𑆶𑆒 (@maidros78) May 3, 2018

त्रपयेव तिरोधानं समं कीर्त्यागमस्ततः॥ 1:555
Seeing his force scattered, the chief of Damaras, Laula[ka], in shame disappeared, with his hope for fame meeting a like fate.— Shanmukh ಷಣ್ಮುಖ ষণ্মুখ షణ్ముఖ ഷണ്മുഖ 𑆰𑆟𑇀𑆩𑆶𑆒 (@maidros78) May 3, 2018
5) शत्रुकीर्णशिलाराशिच्छन्नो डामरलौलकः।
यवनप्रेतसंस्कारान्न विपद्यप्यहीयत॥ 1:556
With his force dissipated by shower of stones, the broken chief of Damaras, even in his misery, did not forsake the last rites of even the Yavana followers.— Shanmukh ಷಣ್ಮುಖ ষণ্মুখ షణ్ముఖ ഷണ്മുഖ 𑆰𑆟𑇀𑆩𑆶𑆒 (@maidros78) May 3, 2018
6) Reading the above verses from Jonaraja, it is clear that the Poonch chief defeated the Kashmiri invasion force, & the latter could only get the agreement to bury their dead & depart in shame. Now why is all this not taught to us?
