#ExploreUP: Welcome to Garhwa, #Allahabad dist. A Gupta period temple site originally. Later fortified with a strong boundary wall coming up. The temples within are ruined but it houses a fabulous collection of Hindu icons, carved in stone. Has two stepped tanks in the enclosure. pic.twitter.com/lL9PrsN0j4

#ExploreUP: Garhwa houses what may be one of the oldest existing depictions of Vishnu's incarnations, known as the dashavataras. These pic show the Matsya (fish) and Kurma (turtle) incarnations. Though defaced, the symbols are clear. Each slab is abt 6 ft high. A rare sight! pic.twitter.com/52pj3fO2wf

#ExploreUp: A treasure-trove of antiquities in Garhwa, including huge depictions of Varaha, Narasimha, Rama and Parashurama – these can be easily identified. There are three more, with most of the top half gone. A set that would do credit to any museum, housed in a store room. pic.twitter.com/bXG1maN8o6
