In 1911 almost all literate Muslims of Punjab only wrote Urdu. While around 70 percent of Hindus and Sikhs did not use Urdu. A slap to those who say ‘religion nothing to do with language’

Data shows that out of all literate Hindus using Punjabi, only 20% used Gurmukhi to write Punjabi but in case of Sikhs it was close to 90%.

In Punjab of 1911 out of every 1000 Hindus , only 55 were literate, 16 using Hindi, 20 used Punjabi and 19 Urdu. Only 16 out of 1k Muslims literate and all used Urdu. 58 out of 1k Sikhs literate, 14 used Urdu and 43 Punjabi.
