The battle of Pavankhind took place on july 13, 1660 at a mountain pass in the vicinity of fort Vishalgad, near the city of Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India between the Maratha Warrior Baji Prabhu Deshpande and Siddi Masud of Adilshah Sultanate.

In front of 5000 Mughals stood a mountain named BajiPrabhu Deshpande, 20 kilos of dandpatta (sword) in each hand, with handful of 300 maavlas ready to throw their lives for their king. Their Yuddhniti was to stop the army of mughals till their king reaches vishalgadh.

The War broke out between the Mughals and BajiPrabhu. The Maavlas standing on top of rift were constantly pushing the Mughal soliders backward. Each one trying to push away the mughals and stopping them form crossing the khind (Mountain Pass).

The Adilshahi army repeatedly tried to break through the defenses of the pass, but were repeatedly repulsed. Each maavla stood firm like a mountain that even the 5000 of mughals felt like small blow of wind.

..With the adilshahi army atacking furiously. The Marathas were fighting thinking that each one of them would fight against at least 10 mughals, the only fear they had was if one soldier dies then other one would have to fight double of his count.

The shooter went on top of a rift to get a clear sight of BajiPrabhu. He aimed his gun, he was confused and amused at the same time, he kept searching for BajiPrabhu, later went back to Siddi Masud. Siddi Masud angrily asked him why he didn't kill Bajiprabhu..

..He knew his king has reached Vishalgad, his soul ready to deport his mortal body, he finally gave up. It was a victory for Adilshahi Sultanate, but they lost Chhatrapati Shivaji. The flag of Marathas flew high. Pawankhind is still present today near vishalgadh.
