Moropant Pingle – Swarajyas greatest and the most underrated peshwa!
On 3rd April 1662 Moropant was appointed to the peshwa post by CSM,before that he served the Amatya(Finance minister)post for short time. He was a very good administrator as well as a miletary general.

Abbe Carre writes Moropant was
“A man who, besides the miletary qualities he possessed to a high degree ,had a great judgment and genius for business(Administration)

The northern province of Swarajya from Kalyan-Bhiwandi northward up to Salher was placed under
Moropant, the Peshwa.
Three revenue settlements were made during CSMs reign; the 2nd settlement was made by Moropant Pingle.(other by Dadoji K and Anaji D)
Moropant was the commander while capturing forts of Trimbak, Ahiwant,Markanda and Ravala-Javla but he particularly distinguished himself in the Battle of Salher in
1672 and the conquest of the principalities of Jawhar.

Moropant lead the Infantry force in the battle of Salher.
He won the battle of Jawahar principalities in extremely harsh conditions.
Just look at the description by Abbe Carre to understand the difficulties in this battle.
Moropant himself said that this was his hardest battle.

CSMs own letter to Ekoji Raje also describes Moropants campaign in Baglan and Khandesh.
Mumbai council describes his siege on Danda Rajpuri.
Both of these campaigns describe the determinant nature of the Peshwa!

British call Moropant as
‘Shivajis Greatest Favourite
When the Englishman attended the Court of CSMs Rajyabhishek they note only Sambhaji M,Peshwa Moropant and“a Brahmin of great eminence”(presumably Gagabhatt)were “seated on an ascent under the throne” while all others were standing with great
respect.
Such was his greatness!8/8
