Senguttavan’s [Chera King] expedition to the Himalayas for getting a stone and to consecrate a temple for Kannaki in the southern part of India and getting it bathed with the waters of ‘Ganga’ in conformity with Sastric rules.

This consecration ceremony was attended by the King of Malva and the King of Ceylon.
.
From selecting the stones for sculpting the Pattini deity to concreting the deity, Senguttavan followed the Agamic practices.

It is also worth mentioning that the priest selected for this temples was Devantikai, selecting a lady priestess was not a uncommon practice.
.
The temple is still very famous and is considered to follow staunch Sakta.
